Season 3 – Episode 42: Sh*t Happened

On this episode, we pick up on the departures in late 1968 of Leo Fenn, the Pleasure Seekers’ manager, Darline Arnone, the band’s phenom drummer, and their costume designer, Lily Weaver. It was a “shit storm” to quote Patti Quatro. She talks about the intensity of having to replace Darline in quick order due to bookings in the Pacific Northwest for Christmas and New Year’s Eve that, in her words, “it felt like a mindfuck” all around. Patti immediately put out a call and soon thereafter found Nanci Rogers from Kalamazoo, Michigan, to replace Dar. The Pleasure Seekers got Nanci up to speed musically, but in terms of costumes, they would have to be flexible and creative. Patti tells a hilarious and embarrassing story in which sister Suzi had decided to take matters into her own hands due to an upset stomach, and why costume changes were a must. Patti also shares with us the adventures of a new line up playing for the welcoming crowds in the Pacific Northwest even though the unwelcoming weather was a dangerous deterrent. We conclude with the Pleasure Seekers’ excitement to finally be going to the Far East to perform for the troops during the Vietnam War in 1969.
