Season 3-Episode 43: Finally the Far East

It’s January-March 1969 and the Pleasure Seekers are gigging a lot, including with the mighty MC5. This was Detroit’s iconic all-male band who yelled out the clarion call to their audiences to “Kick out the jams motherfuckers!” Patti Quatro reveals some amazing stories about their time with the MC5, including some surprise reactions and a snarky review from one particular show. It was also during this time that the Pleasure Seekers were finally gearing up for their long-anticipated journey to the Far East to entertain the troops. A mini vacation was taken in Hawaii, since there was a layover, and then off to Guam they went. Patti sets the stage and shares some memorable, fun, and often funny tales of performing for the military – and their wives. As the Pleasure Seekers were ready to head to their next performance in Vietnam, they were told that it was deemed too unsafe for them to be there, and so the gig was quickly cancelled. As a result, the men at Guam asked the Pleasure Seekers to play one more stint at their base before heading back to the U.S. The girls were asked to perform for the wounded soldiers being prepped for surgery…or worse. The next series of events remain the most significant and life-changing moments in Patti’s musical career, and these memories still live with her to this day.
