Season 3 Episode 46:
Once Upon a Time…
On the final episode of Season Three, Patti Quatro and I talk about the remaining weeks of 1969 with the departure of sister Arlene from the Pleasure Seekers. This leads to a total overhaul and reconfiguration of the band, including bringing back drummer Nanci Rogers. We talk about the new line up and how the decision was made to change the band name from the Pleasure Seekers to Cradle. Patti and the other members – Suzi Quatro, Nancy Quatro, and Nanci Rogers, were ready to jump on the hot new music trends of the day, including jams. Patti then gives us our last music lesson of the Season as we listen to “Brain Confusion.” It remains one of Patti’s favorite songs, because it was musically and lyrically representative of the crossover from the Pleasure Seekers to Cradle. It also underscored to the social, political, and cultural unrest percolating across the country, including Detroit. We conclude by talking about the fairytale that was the Pleasure Seekers, and how their story has continued to live with a legacy of universal recognition and total respect. Once upon a time, from 1964 to 1969, the Pleasure Seekers made history by being one of the first all-female rock ‘n’ roll bands to play, write, record, and perform all over the country and the world. When Patti Quatro had her epiphany at sixteen years old to start a rock band, little did she know what kind of magical journey she, her sisters, and all the members of the Pleasure Seekers would embark on and encounter. And little did Patti Quatro know that the fairytale would continue with Cradle. Stay tuned for all-things Cradle in Season Four, but until then, that’s a wrap!
