Season of Glass

On December 8, 1980 John Lennon was murdered. For those of us who were there, we remember it as if it was yesterday. A year later in 1981, Yoko Ono said in an interview, “John was killed, and it was very important to me to show that to the world, and for people to remember. Because I think that all of us are responsible for his death, of course including myself. Both John and I were always trying to make a peaceful world. And it is very ironical that John who loved peace so much, died in a violent way.”

On Episode 5, we discuss the tragic loss of Lennon and how Yoko learned to cope without her soulmate and partner. Upon John’s death, Yoko took a photograph of his blood-stained glasses next to a glass of water on top of a glass table looking out through a window facing Central Park. It was Yoko’s way of showing the world what had happened to her beloved John. She called it “Season of Glass” and it was the cover photograph for her next album. “There is a season that never passes and that is the season of glass.” Madeline Bocaro poignantly recounts the personal sadness and loneliness Yoko experienced after John’s murder over forty years ago, reminding all of us who still mourn the loss of Lennon to remember her loss as well.

when I heard the tragic news of John’s murder.I was shocked and floored.
I am surprised that you didn’t mention the Fanny connection to Double Fantasy…

    1. Hi Guy!

Thank you for listening! I intentionally did not want to meander away from the focus of Yoko Ono and Madeline‘s book for this very important and personal conversation. We all have our memories, and there are indeed, connections, including that John Lennon saw Fanny at the Whisky in 1974. But again, this was Yoko‘s moment. I know you get that. 🥰
