Season 4 Episode 4:
Sally and Johnny

It’s here and it’s hot! Season 4 of the “Rock ‘n’ Roll Survivors Podcast” focuses on the all-female band Cradle straight out of Detroit from 1969-1973. We’re calling E4 “Sally and Johnny,” a song written by Cradle about the plight of a traditional stay at home mother being secretly envious that her children, Sally and Johnny, get to run carefree off to school as she ponders her hum-drum life. Cradle had a unique perspective on the social norms that most women were relegated to during the late 1960s and early 1970s, because they had bucked this expectation of women by playing rock ‘n’ roll and taking it on the road. This includes tons of gigging all throughout the Midwest on their own with lots of strange and spooky encounters with male fans and figures. It’s a haunting and out of this world time for the ladies of Cradle. Are you listening…?
